We will also be showcasing our favorite antiques and fancy goods from Primrose, our gift shop.
A Fascination for Hellebores
11th Annual Winter Festival
Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5
Keynote Speaker: Riz Reyes on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Katie Miller on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Our Winter Festival celebrates the range and depth of Hellebores and our Nursery will have a wide variety in full bloom ready to be planted and enjoyed this season. We are fortunate to live in a climate that is friendly to shade-loving Hellebores. When most perennials are in slumber, Hellebores are in full bloom from January through April. These understory perennials are easy-care and deer resistant. And the varieties are endless; some are clear, others have spotting, striping, and can be bi-colored. A few of our favorites are: Helleborus x hybridus ‘Sunrise’, Helleborus niger ‘Josef Lemper’, Helleborus niger x orientalis ‘Madam Lemmonier’, Helleborus x ballardiae ‘Pink Frost’. Complimentary classes begin Saturday, at 11:00 a.m., with Skagit Garden’s horticulturist, Katie Miller. She will discuss these darlings of the winter season and their hardy characteristics. At 1:00 p.m., learn Hellebore basics from Keynote Speaker and noted horticulturist, Riz Reyes, as he discusses different types of Hellebores and how to use them in the garden, cut arrangements and containers. An inspiring and educational day for those seeking happy surprises in their winter gardens. Complementary reservations suggested: 360-466-3821.
While at the festival, go to the Conservatory to enjoy a sample of creatively designed, local, handmade, artisanal chocolates by Proprietress, Linda Lewis, and Beach Castle Sweets. Beach Castle Sweets, a local favorite, is a family run operation (inspired by Linda’s mother). Their chocolates are an indulgent treat for yourself or as a gift.

Rent Mason Bees
Wednesday, March 29
10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Rent Mason Bees is a western Washington-based company that rents bees to backyard gardeners and orchardists. This year, Christianson’s Nursery is an official pick up and drop off location! RentMasonBees.com supplies pollination kits which contain safe, local bees to provide a sustainable and economical solution for gardeners, fruit growers and farmers. When your pollination needs have been met at the end of the season, you simply return the kits to us and they will pick them up and do the post care, cleaning, and storage of the bees for the dormant season (pick-up dates may be found on our website).
Through renting their bees, your spring and summer crops are pollinated and you help boost native bee populations while indirectly supporting the production of food that will end up in our grocery stores. To inquire: (360) 466-3821 or 1-800-585-8200.
