Spiral Topiary Workshop

Bring the splendor of the holiday season home by creating a living spiral tabletop topiary with author and NWFGS speaker, Sue Goetz. A one-gallon spired Dwarf Alberta Spruce shaped into a holiday centerpiece adds an elegant, natural touch and brings the winter garden indoors!

Class begins with a brief talk about topiary basics including classical garden uses, traditional shapes (and maybe not so traditional!) and the best plant material for shaping. You will then try your hand at spiraling a small evergreen topiary to take home. Please bring gloves and a pair of scissors or pruning shears.

 
 
Gnocchi; A Delicious Winter Meal

Culinary wizard, Suzanne Butler, will demonstrate making two kinds of savory gnocchi that will inspire a delicious winter meal. Learn the secrets of making pumpkin gnocchi with brown butter sage sauce and potato gnocchi with a lovely tomato ragu that is sure to impress your friends and family. Gnocchi makes a comforting weekend lunch or a warming Sunday dinner on cold rainy days.

 

Do It Yourself Holiday Wreath-Making

Hourly classes begin at 11 a.m., Noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Bring your family and friends to this seasonal, hands-on class where you will create a fresh evergreen wreath using the Nursery’s wreath-making machines. You will receive instruction and assistance from our expert wreath designers Karen Harper and Laura Campbell. We provide a stunning array of seasonal greens and berries (sold by the pound) or bring your own. The cost of one wreath form is included in the class fee.

Wear warm clothing and bring pruners, gardening gloves and a Thermos of hot chocolate. Maximum of 7 students for each hour-long class.

Can’t make it to class? You can reserve our wreath-making machines beginning November 27 to December 24 and we will be happy to assist you as questions arise. Schedule a date and time by contacting the Garden Store 360-466-3821

 
Swans of Skagit

The majestic beauty of fields filled with white swans, both native trumpeter and tundra, are virtually at Christianson’s doorstep in December, January, and February. At this highly informational presentation from wildlife biologist and Executive Director of the Northwest Swan Conservation Association, Martha Jordan, you will learn about these amazing birds – the largest waterfowl in the world – and discover the best places to view them in Skagit Valley.
