On June 10, after a long and very full life, our beloved Nursery cat, Bamboo, passed away. He made a gallant effort to overcome a progressive neurological disorder of unknown origin but sadly, after about six weeks of kitty hospice care from our devoted staff, he died peacefully and was surrounded by love right up to the end.
Bamboo’s life at Christianson’s began in 2004 when he showed up one day at the back of the Nursery. He appeared to be about two years old at the time, was well-cared-for, and had a beautiful blue collar but no identification or microchip. We placed ads in the paper, but no one came forward, so he joined our team and made the Nursery his home.
We couldn’t have asked for a more exemplary staff member. He was charming, handsome, and never missed a day of work. The Nursery had two other cats when he first arrived, but Bamboo was the crowd pleaser. He was exceedingly patient and gracious with the nearly constant attention and petting he received from customers and staff members. He was gentle with children, respectful of dog visitors, and became pals with one of the Nursery’s chickens. He loved to climb onto the lap of anyone who would welcome him. He would ride along on Nursery carts and jump into plant boxes, and he spent many hours of his life keeping people company while the rest of their group did their shopping.
Over the years he became quite a celebrity and it wasn’t uncommon for customers to specifically ask to see Bamboo. When we posted news of his passing on Facebook, we were so touched by all the kind comments and sweet stories. Thank you. We thought he was special, and it warms our hearts to know that he gave and received so much love. His was a life well lived and he will be deeply missed.
